Segun Oni, former governor of Ekiti State and Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the last governorship election, joined Governor Biodun Oyebanji in worship at the Government House Chapel on Sunday, adding a new dimension to opposition politics in the state.
to 9:55 a.m., former governor Oluwarotimi Ajimobi and a small group of his closest relatives and political allies showed up to the chapel in the Governor House complex in Ado-Ekiti, where they were greeted by the current governor, Biodun Oyebanji.
Having missed the special thanksgiving ceremony organized on October 22 to commemorate the latter’s one anniversary in office, Oni claimed he attended the service to make good on a promise he had made to Oyebanji to worship with him at the Government House Chapel.
The former governor recounted that his last service at the chapel was on October 15, 2010, the day he was ousted from office by the Court of Appeal.
In his presentation to the audience, he urged on stakeholders in the Ekiti project to join hands with Gov Oyebanji.
“Running for office is a healthy endeavor. It’s a good idea to appeal the decision as well. You then go to the next step. Politics should be under our control, not the other way around. He exhorted, “Now is the moment to join hands with Governor Oyebanji to improve the state.
He lauded the governor for his commitment to finishing all unfinished infrastructure projects, especially the Ado-Ifaki road.
“I will say he has been very impressive; he is a gift to us as a people and I believe that he has the perfect composure to move us forward,” he declared.
I thank Your Excellency for this extraordinary visit, which I consider a sign of your affection for me and for our beautiful state,” Gov. Oyebanji replied. Your presence at our house of worship is a tangible expression of your affection and support for our progress.
“The Ekiti people love you, and there’s something wonderful about it. People’s hearts are always with you because you are altruistic like that.
“Just because I was elected does not make me superior to you. Thanks be to God. And you’ve been a rock for us ever since the case was over in court.
Head of Service Sunday Komolafe, Speaker of the Assembly Adeoye Aribasoye, and Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye all attended the funeral.
