On Sunday, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State urged residents to pray earnestly in an effort to combat the state’s ongoing security crisis.
During the opening ceremony of the 27th Qur’anic recitation competition in the state, the governor delivered a speech through his chief of staff, the Hon. Mukhtar Lugga.
Lawal was responding to the kidnapping of over a hundred people on Friday from the communities of Mutunji and three others in the Maru Local Government Area of the State.
The state authorities, he claims, knew about the kidnappings in the countryside and the security problems there.
He went on to say that “the state government had recruited 4,200 Community Protection Guards, CPGs,” to deal with the “dastardly acts” happening in the state.
Remember that on Friday, approximately a hundred people from four villages in the Dansadau district were kidnapped by a bandit boss known as Damina.
The residents of the four villages reported the bandits rode into their towns on motorcycles because they had not paid harvesting fees.
