A United Nigeria Airline flight NUA0504, traveling from the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos en route to Abuja on Sunday, arrived at Asaba International Airport in Delta State.
Passengers were told that the bad weather they would be arriving to in the nation’s capital was to blame for the unexpected turn of events.
One of the passengers, @dawisu, who took to his verified X handle to criticize the airline, stated that, despite knowing that the flight was diverted, the cabin crew announced that they were arriving in Abuja.
To go to Asaba, we first flew to Abuja and then took a connecting flight. We are about to land at Abuja Airport, they said. Then, bang! The Asaba Airport is in view. He summed up United Nigeria Airline as “just some random airline.”
The airline’s management responded by issuing a statement through the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Achilleu-Chud Uchegbu, explaining that the initial notification was a mistake.
He claims the plane’s pilot was briefed about the detour and was aware of it.
However, the cabin crew issued a misleading announcement upon successfully touching down in Asaba, leading to confusion for the passengers.
He did, however, report that the plane had made a safe landing in Abuja after the weather there cleared up.
