The Kano State police command has issued a fresh warning against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) planned gathering.
On Friday in Kano, the state’s top cop, Mr. Hussaini Gumel, spoke by phone to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to Gumel, the command has launched extensive patrols in and around the city to keep the peace.
He said armed security men had been despatched to important regions in the state to deal with any form of security threat.
When asked about protests by the two major political parties under his jurisdiction, he stated, “As far as this command is concerned, we have not permitted any form of protest.”
People should go about their lawful activities without worrying about being harmed, he advised.
He said that the state’s police and other security agencies were cooperating to keep everyone and everything safe.
He urged the heads of both factions to honor their agreements to end hostilities.
He warned parents to keep a close eye on their children because lawbreakers would be arrested and brought to justice.
