The National Cybercrime Centre of the Nigeria Police Force has made three arrests on accusations of conspiracy, identity theft, and romance fraud after receiving reliable information.
This was made public in a statement by the Force Spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, released on the Force X account on Friday.
According to the statement, Njoku Kingsley, 35, Chigozie Okorie, 34, and Jideofor Sejus, 35, were all detained for various forms of fraud committed under the guise of a man named Anthony James.
Using this alias, they preyed on unsuspecting victims via romantic scams in order to steal their money.
Suspects voluntarily provided statements detailing their participation in the criminal plot.
Therefore, members of the cyber community as a borderless state are admonished to exercise great restraint or completely avoid creating resource-exchanging ties in the social media sphere,” the statement continued.
“Criminal charges will be filed against the suspects once the investigation is complete.”
